A scientific navigator, his undertaking of the most ambitious hydrographic survey of the British coastline yet attempted drew him to Shetland, the Scilly Isles and all points in between.

Master and Cartographer is a book about maps and map-making, about power and class, and about war, seamanship and navigation.

An author walk with Paul Harris

Weighed down by a traumatic military past, Paul Harris aka 'The Warrior Walker' set off on a pilgrimage around the UK that would rebuild his life from rock bottom and change the way he saw the world forever.

To celebrate the release of The Warrior Walker, Paul will be chatting to people, signing books and leading a guided walk through some of the green lanes that are only a stone’s throw from Totnes town centre.

Paul should be with us from 13:30 and the walk will commence at 14:00, starting from and finishing at the bookshop.
The two mile walk should take just under an hour and will involve some steep and uneven ground. Everyone welcome, just turn up, and we can help out if assistance is needed.

Devon’s Wild Landscapes: The Potency of Place, with Sophie Pierce

Join Sophie Pierce for an illustrated talk about the many extraordinary locations featured in her memoir The Green Hill. From Crazywell Pool on Dartmoor, to Burgh Island and the River Dart, the book explores the way we relate to places both wild and ancient, and the role they play in our emotional lives. Sophie will also show a new short film: The Green Hill: A Year at Sharpham Meadow. This documents a year of dawn visits that Sophie made with photographer Kate Mount to the burial ground which overlooks the River Dart near Totnes.

Yes, we’re delighted to confirm that this year we will be holding another Restoring Nature at Lower Sharpham Farm hosted by the amazing team at Ambios.
